Advancing Health Equity in Rural Southern Communities
Bridge to Equity Foundation is a movement rooted in care, built on purpose, and fueled by community. We are an African-American-founded, 501(c)(3) public charity working to advance health equity across medically underserved and rural Southern communities — including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia, Virginia, Florida, and Oklahoma.
In these regions, far too many people continue to struggle to access consistent, compassionate, and culturally sensitive care. Our work centers the voices and needs of those most often pushed to the margins — including Black and Indigenous families, Latinx and immigrant communities, LGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, formerly incarcerated individuals, low-income and uninsured families, and first-generation students pursuing health careers.
What We Do:
Bridge to Equity operates at the intersection of community, education, and systemic change. We conduct independent and collaborative research, offer mentorship, teach and lecture across institutions, develop anti-racist and equity-centered curricula, engage in public speaking, and contribute to peer-reviewed publications that drive reform in healthcare and medical education.
We also work closely with community organizations, private practices, doulas, nurses, physician assistants, and local health leaders to launch grassroots health initiatives, provide continuing education, and support a new generation of providers who see equity as essential to care, not optional.
Let’s Work Together:
We welcome collaboration with all colleges and universities, including public and private institutions, community colleges, and technical programs. We partner across disciplines — from nursing and medical schools to public policy, sociology, education, and ethnic studies.
If you’re building something bold in healthcare, education, or community health, we want to work alongside you.
Why It Matters:
Systemic injustice didn’t happen overnight, and equity won’t be achieved without intention. We believe real change begins with local voices, shared knowledge, and radical collaboration. At Bridge to Equity, we don’t just imagine better care — we co-create it.
